Manager's Responsibilities
The managers of the swim team are of great importance to the coaches.  With reliable and enthusiastic managers, the coaches are able to dedicate more time to help the swimmers individually.  A manager is required to attend practices as well as meets.  He or she can earn a varsity letter, providing dedication and reliability are demonstrated.
Some Duties of a swim team manager may include:
During Practice:
Entry of statistics into the computer
Calculations of swimming information
Record attendance
Help time during practice
Get the pool and equipment ready for practice
Keep team bulletin board in order
Help the coaching staff
 
During a Meet:
Help setup and tear down home meets
Time and record data
Complete information to be presented in Newspapers and School Announcements
Travel with the team to away meets
Help the coaching staff
 
Managers are team members.  Just like the other members of the team, they are subject to the same rules, regulations, and rewards.
 
To Be A Captain
The team will be picking the Captains for this season,  The captains will be picked before the first meet.  The position of captain is an honored position that will be treated that way.  Failure to fulfill the duties of a captain will result in the removal of this title.
Those duties are:
1. Set a positive example for the team in all areas including school, practice, meets, social life, etc.
2. Meet with the coaching staff once a week to disuss the team.
3. Act as liaisons between the coaches and the swimmers.
4. Promote TEAM.
 
Along with the selected captains, additional meet captains may be selected if the coaching staff deems a team member deseres the honor. 
The selection of meet captain(s) will be determined by:
1. Work ethic during practice
2. Meet performance
3. "Wildcard: (This may be used for special situation throughout the year)
 
***Please remember that as a captain, you are not only an example to the team while you are at the pool, but also while you are away from the pool.  Your attitude and actions have a direct correlation to your ability to be chosen as a captain.

Varsity Letter
To receive a varsity letter, a swimmer must attain a total of 10 points during the season.  Swimmers not attaining 10 points will receive a certificate of participation.  Relay points are split among the swimmers in the relay for varsity points. 
 
Points awarded are as follows for a 4 lane pool:

*As you can see, scoring relay victories in a 4 lane pool are very important.
 
Points awarded are as follows for a 6 lane pool:

*In a 6 lane pool, the 2nd - 5th places are where the meet is won and lost.
The coaching staff may renew a former process of awarding a varsity letter. 

Team Awards
End of the Season Awards
The awards described below are presented at the conclusion of the swim season.  Each award will be presented to a boy and a girl.
 
1. Most Coachable
Criteria:
A. Accepts constructive criticism from coaches
B. Puts forth an effort to correct strokes
C. Has a positive attitude towards self improvement as well as towards the sport
D. Looks for direction from the coaches for improvement in stroke work
 
2. Most Improved
Criteria:
A. Improves attitude and outlook of self and sport
B. Improves stroke technique
C. Improves times and performance
 
3. Most Points
Criteria:
A. Awarded to the person who scores the most points during the season
 
4. Most Spirited
Criteria:
A. Displays a positive attitude during the entire season
B. Shall not complain, criticize or find fault with others
C. Will always try to attain whatever is possible
D. Is self motivated and self directed
E. Is always in control of emotions
F. Does not find excuses, instead takes responsibility
 
5. Most Valuable Player
This award is presented at the Varsity S All Sports Banquet
Criteria:
A. Attitude
B. Support of Others
C. Sportsmanship
D. Points earned during season
 
 

Other Awards
Mountain Valley Conference All Star Team
1.  An individual may hold 4 positions, 2 of which must be relay positions.
2.  Only times done in a MVC meet may be used as qualifying times.
3.  Each event will have 3 individuals or 2 realy teams named as the MVC All Stars.
 
Mountain Valley Conference Outstanding Swimmer (Male/Female)
This award is given to the most productive swimmer based on the NISCA Power Points system.
 
NISCA All American Honor
All American honors provided for both athletic and academic success.  The academic honor is awarded to any Senior member of team who qualifies.  The athletic honor is accomplished by swimming a time.  For more information, see Coach Ellis.
